Magic is best at mid game, at late game might probably beat magic. Soo if you are strong at magic at mid game its time to attack. Try to get full set of artifacts, they boost stats a lot. If you get a chest and need to take 1000 gold or 500xp take gold, 1500 gold/1000xp is optional and 2000 gold/ 1500 xp you should take xp.
